How to use a Rotisserie on a Barbeque grill
A charcoal grill is not just limited to cooking on grill grates. You can also use a rotating grilling technique using a tool known as a rotisserie. It is a style of roasting when meat is skewered on a spit. This technique is normally used to cook large meat such as a whole chicken or pig but you can also use it to grill hot dogs as shown from the image below. So how do you grill using a rotisserie? Read on to find out.
1. Set up your rotisserie. Ensure that it fits the size of your grill or else it will not work. What is a good length for a rotisserie? The rod should be at least 3 inches longer than the width of the grill. Set up the mounting brackets which should be fit under the grill hood and run the spit rod through the set of holes and insert the open end of the rod into a rotisserie motor.
2. Now choose the right accessories for the meat you are going to skewer. For example, whole chickens and kebab meat fit nicely into spit forks. Ribs and pork chops work out with rotisserie baskets.
3. Once your rotisserie is set up with the meat, it is time to get it rotating. The speed of the rotisserie motor is extremely important. For example, if you are skewering a large meat like a whole chicken then you would want the rotisserie to rotate slowly. Smaller portions should rotate at a faster speed.
4. Grill your meat over indirect heat. Ensure there is plenty of moisture. Fit a drip pan under the spit rod to collect any dropping fluids.
5. Now grill your meat to a desired temperature. Check your recipe to find out what your desired temperature is. To check the temperature of the meat, stick a meat thermometer into the inner and middle portion of the meat.
